A Music Filler — Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco (SMD) is a remix/production duo from the UK. The members of the duo, James Ford and Jas Shaw, began DJ’ing while touring in a 4-piece band called Simian. They added Mobile Disco when someone asked them what they wanted to be called on a flyer for one of their gigs. [link]

The duo recently released their fourth studio album called Temporary Pleasures and even with the additional vocal talent of Beth Ditto from the band Gossip, Jamie Lidell, and Alexis Taylor from the electropop band Hot Chip, the record is only getting lukewarm reviews from critics. (Times Online,  NME)

Stereogum has posted “Cruel Intentions,” the song featuring Beth Ditto on there site: listen to it here. (Hint: its a hot and sexy track!). Jamie Lidell has posted his collab cut with SMD, “Off The Wall,” on his MySpace page. Have a listen here. You can also listen to the track “10,000 Horses Can’t Be Wrong,” one of two tracks without vocals, here. (Warning: Video features flashing lights!)

The first official single and video from the Temporary Pleasures album, “Audacity of Huge,” is below the jump. The video was directed by Jo Apps and Kate Moross. Jo Apps is a visual editor who has worked with SMD on their video for the single “It’s the Beat,” and has produced visuals for the artist MIA. Kate Moross is a much applauded designer and illustrator based in London who also owns the vinyl only record label, Isomorph Records.

What do you think of the songs and video? Let me know in the comments. Continue reading
