Music Filler — Polysics

“Rocket”

Polysics is a Japanese new wave rock band from Tokyo. The band’s sound and look is inspired by the American band Devo and the Japanese bands P-Model and the Plastics. The name of the band is derived from the lead singer’s first synthesizer, a Korg Polysix.

Polysics began in 1997 and since 1999 has released a new album each year. In addition to their fast and brash asymmetrical sound, the group has also created odd and sometimes perverse videos that match.

This year marks the final time Kayo, a longterm member of the group, will be touring with the band. (Kayo is the one with the robotic appearance on the keyboards.) With Kayo’s announcement that she is “graduating” from the group, the band has also announced a planned hiatus to be taken after their next tour which starts Jan 28, at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco.

Check out their video for the song Domo Arigato Mr Roboto. In the video, a Power Rangers type robot goes a little crazy and pranks and partying ensue.
